WhatsApp Introduces Campaign to Educate Indian Users About Privacy Features
WhatsApp has announced the launch of a campaign in India to educate users on the built-in layers of privacy protection added by the company over the years. The new features include the ability to leave groups silently, control who can see when you’re online, and blocking screenshots for ‘view once’ messages. WhatsApp is used by approximately 2 billion people worldwide.
Avinash Pant, Director of Marketing, Meta India, said in a statement that this is their way of informing and assuring their users about how the new and existing built-in layers of protection allow one message to be sent freely without compromising privacy. They want users to know that no matter where they are, they will always have a safe and private space on WhatsApp.
The company also released a film to raise awareness. It depicts a conversation between a father and his son, demonstrating the impact of WhatsApp’s built-in layers of privacy protection. BBDO created the concept. In the coming weeks, the company will use short films to educate users on each privacy feature.
WhatsApp has added a new privacy feature that allows users to leave groups without notifying anyone. Users can also choose whether they want to be seen as ‘online’ or not. They can also customize the list by deciding who can and cannot see their active status.
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will enable screenshot blocking for ‘view once’ messages. It is expected to be rolled out soon. The users can also block and report the users who send spam or other problematic content.
WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption ensures that no one, not even the company, has access to the chats. Backups are also encrypted and can only be accessed with a password or encryption key.
The platform also introduced the disappearing messages feature. Users can choose between 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days for the messages to be automatically deleted.
WhatsApp also added a two-step verification feature that allows users to set a six-digit PIN as an extra layer of protection.
Pant further stated that it is a great honor that two billion people around the world rely on WhatsApp to deliver personal messages on a daily basis.
